چکیده

A silicon differential microchemical reactor that utilizes a novel crossflow geometry has been developed for the testing of porous supported catalysts. The cross-flow design reduces pressure drop by using a shallow but wide catalyst bed. Modeling, flow visualization, and pressure drop studies confirm even flow distribution across the reactor. Kinetic experiments with the oxidation of carbon monoxide as a model chemistry demonstrate the cross-flow microreactor as a practical laboratory tool for catalyst testing.

Single Step and Non-Catalytic Process for Formaldehyde Production from Methane using Microchannel Reactor: Theoretical Analysis

Conventionally, methane is reformed into syngas, and subsequently converted into C1-oxygenates (methanol and formaldehyde). A novel option is the catalyst-free single-step conversion of methane to C1-oxygenates. This study presents a comprehensive model of methane partial oxidation to formaldehyde as an intermediate chemical species in methane oxidation process using microreactor. The dependenc...

A CFD Simulation of Hydrogen Production in Microreactors

In this study, the modeling of hydrogen production process in microreactors by methanol-steam reforming reaction is investigated. The catalytic reaction of methanol-steam reforming producing hydrogen is simulated considering a 3D geometry for the microreactor. To calculate diffusion among species, mixture average correlations are compared to Stephan-Maxwell equations. The reactions occurring in...

A combined kinetic and thermodynamic approach for the interpretation of continuous-flow heterogeneous catalytic processes.

The heterogeneous proline-catalyzed aldol reaction was investigated under continuous-flow conditions by means of a packed-bed microreactor. Reaction-progress kinetic analysis (RPKA) was used in combination with nonlinear chromatography for the interpretation, under synthetically relevant conditions, of important mechanistic aspects of the heterogeneous catalytic process at a molecular level. Th...

Heat and mass transfer in a square microchannel with asymmetric heating

This paper describes the heat and mass transfer in a square microchannel that is heated from one side. This microchannel represents a reaction channel in a microreactor that is used to study the kinetics of the catalytic partial oxidation of methane. The microchannel is contained in a silicon wafer and is covered by a thin silicon sheet. At the top side of this sheet, heating elements are prese...

In situ IR and X-ray high spatial-resolution microspectroscopy measurements of multistep organic transformation in flow microreactor catalyzed by Au nanoclusters.

Analysis of catalytic organic transformations in flow reactors and detection of short-lived intermediates are essential for optimization of these complex reactions. In this study, spectral mapping of a multistep catalytic reaction in a flow microreactor was performed with a spatial resolution of 15 μm, employing micrometer-sized synchrotron-based IR and X-ray beams. Two nanometer sized Au nanoc...
